FUCK "Black" Hollywood....

When I first came to Atlanta in the earlier 90's I fell in love with the "SOUL" of this city. The deep southern culture, the beautiful people, and the music. Now of days it's really hard to find a person who was born and raised in Atlanta. Other people from different cities moved here to follow their own dreams. I have watched Atlanta change from a southern city to a city of business and hustle. I have also watched the city move their native people out of city limited and push them out to College Park, East Point, Decatur, ect... With all these new businesses opening up why didn't the new people give those jobs to the people who were born and raised here? This NEW Atlanta scene has become commericial and has lose it soul and LOVE for the people..it seems like if you are a real Atlien then the only thing they want you to do is make "rap" music...or "TRAP" music...the soul in the music is GONE...Atlanta wants to be "Hollywood" know, EVERYONE wants to be a star...everyone wants to shine, but no one wants to help the people who we were born here...even I am a victim to this madness. I been living in Atlanta since 1994 and I only know maybe 5-6 REAL born-Atlanta people (I'm not counting the entertainers I know)...everyone I know personally moved here from another city...and thats NOT a bad thing, I love growth and business but the SOUL of the City is lose...Just turn on the radio and listen to the negative music they play for our youth...what are the babies learning?? So I decided to make this VERY clear..I'm not speaking for City of Ink and my crew..I'm speaking for "Miya Bailey" I AM NOT DOWN WITH BLACK HOLLYWOOD!!! I am not down with the "VIP" area...anyone who know me know if a club promoter gives me a VIP area...everyone who knows me is welcome to have it..I rather walk around with the "regular" everyday work class folks...I'm not judging anyone I'm just not down with the Hollywood shit...I'm not down with SELLING dreams, I'm down with following dreams...we are ALL stars...we are all beautiful...bring Atlanta BACK...bring back the MUSIC, the soul, the art and the PEOPLE!..F.I.L.A...Forever I Love Atlanta

I feel you on this post. I live in Durham, NC and I've gotten sick of the whole ATL vibe from here. Yea, it cool that Tyler Perry opened up a studio, JD does his thing, and you got sports & entertainment, but the good ol' Martin Luther King civil rights era has been shot to hell! Sad-
I had a brother-in-law that got caught up in the "ATL Movement"...he died in Grady Memorial Hospital (a replica of hell)...not from gun shot or crime, but a health condition that we believe they couldn't handle because so many people were in need at that hospital. He was in his late 30's but "hip-hop" culture had his life!

I agree that the common good will for humanity has died. it's become an "About ME" type city, where not even the most important people matter. I've been here since I was two. I've seen a lot change.

Atlanta is VERY cliquish and it's sad because there are so many people, places, and things that we could all be sharing with one another but they are pretty much whorded to particular circles.

I grew to like City of Ink because of the person I became acquainted with that is affiliated with City of Ink...you. I can't speak for everyone elses interaction with the City of Ink (as a whole) because everyone didn't have the same experience as me.

I wish that people were more down to earth like yourself but the glitz and glam of being in the "know" doesn't bring out the most friendly side in people. It's like this air of superiority is floating around that says "you should WANT to know who I am; it's a privilege to know ME", when the truth is, at the end of the day, you go home and sleep in your bed just like me so no, if your personality sucks, I shouldn't want to be ANYWHERE near you.

I've been here almost 10 years and it's changed drastically since then...the humble mumble of the city has become the proud loud (and not so much in a good way).

um Miya let me speak for the real ATLiens we are still here we just don't associate with the b.s. that the posers are pushing. We are also busy grinding, making moves and being productive consider this WE ARE ZION! Only the real can find us.

i haved lived in Miami for most of my life, but i was born with a soul for black culture and southern living. After being in college for a few years I said it was time to make that move to where I want to be and make some new roots so I packed up in the middle of the night and moved to ATL around 4am in my little car. What a nightmare it turned out to be. I tried to find some jazz lounges, black art museums, African American bookstores, and i came to find pennies. All I encountered was the louis vuittons and gucci people. no one cared about culture it was all about fashion and getting money. you are so right and its so sad. ATL is dead for now. I packed up 2 months later and back to Miami i went.
