Her eyes said it all.....

She had a love for hip-hop and art...Myla was her name..I meet her back in 94 at Tower Records...she was older than me and I never had a deep convo with a female before...I was taught to be hard and heartless to women..but this older women was wise...we shared the same love for music the same love for art...she even taught me how to dress...I was a slave to her every word and her views on life were worldly and open minded...Her eyes told a story but I couldn't read that story..she kept me distant from her soul..but her eyes kept me curious and her mind opened my mind to the world...I asked her "What is your story why do you want to change me? Why you want me to share my story with you but you won't share yours with me?" She was protecting me from something...was she my angel sent here to help me grow as a man, or was she using me to please her desires for a younger man? Myla took me shopping oneday looked me in my eyes and told me "Miya, I love you country boy!" I didn't know what to say...I wasn't in love with her but I did love her...but I wasn't man enough at 19 to tell her how I felt...so it was silence...a year later Myla died of cancer and I never told her thank you for helping me grow as a man...I never told her I loved her...RIP Myla...u believed in me...

If I could cry at work, I would. That was beautiful and very compassionate. Not so much as her inspiration but on your reflection, that after all of these years you can look back, relish in the moment and see the effects of her. That is the definition of a beautiful thing I live by, Sankofa (thank you for permanently inking it on my body). Much love and respect.

Miya, I can't wait to buy your book...you're such an inspiration to me, w/o even having to try. I wish you all the success in the world until you're obese with accomplishment and bloated with happiness.LOL Please promise to never stop doing you and enlightening those of us that aspire to have as much passion as you! You ROCK! Thanks for unknowingly being my mentor and sharing your soul...

Miya you are such a passinate individual. Your words encourage me and your art inspires me. When reading your words they are so meaningful and when looking at your art it's an experience and not just some drawing. Continue to express yourself through your art that's who you are!! Blessings
